I know this question has been asked many times, but I could not find any recent posts about it (as in they take into account the latest models).

I'm going into my master's in architecture next year and looking to upgrade my computer. I've had the same 13' MacBook Air for the past 5 years and although I managed fine with it, it's starting to get old and my performance needs are getting stricter.

The programs I use most are AutoCAD, Photoshop CC, SketchUp and am planning on dual booting to use Revit from now on.

I'm now hesitating between two models:

15' MACBOOK PRO 2015

  • 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.4GHz
  • 16GB of 1600MHz memory
  • 256GB SSD
  • Intel Iris Pro Graphics
  • Two Thunderbolt 2 ports

13' MACBOOK PRO (NEW GEN) + 2nd MONITOR AT HOME

Mac Pro Apple Architecture Drawing App Free

  • 2.3GHz dual-core 7th-generation Intel Core i5 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
  • 16GB 2133MHz LPDDR3 memory
  • 256GB SSD
  • Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640
  • Two Thunderbolt 3 ports

I keep going back and forth... I really like the portability of the 13' (+ seems like the specs compare?!) as I move around quite a lot with my computer and don't want to be carrying a large and inconvenient laptop. My 13' MBA has followed me to a lot of places and it was the perfect size for me. But I've heard many people going for the 15' and I'm annoyed by the new thunderbolt ports of the new gen.

I would love to have your input 🙂 Thanks!
